Caves and Trees
Caves and Trees is combination game and assessment block. You might also consider it practice or instruction. Currently (12/26/24), it only allows math problems – division, multiplication, addition or subtraction. The player rolls a die to advance through the game. Caves send the player back, trees can be climbed to the next row. If a player lands on one type of square, they must answer a problem to advance. A second type of square asks a harder problem but the player advances twice as far.
Drag Answer into the Blank
The drag_blank block is an assessment block in which the player drags a block into a blank to complete a statement. There can be from 1 to 4 blanks on a page.
Drag N Items Into Categories
As the name implies, in the Drag N Items into Categories block the player drags items into one of three categories. A category can have as many items (N) as the designer decides. The game designer specifies the number of items to be shown on the screen at one time, and the total number of questions (items) to be presented.
Drag One Item Per Category
The Drag One Item per Category block works the same as the previous block but will show exactly one item per category.
Drag in Sequence (Chronological or Numerical Order) Block
In the Drag in Sequence block, the player drags each item into one of three boxes that are in chronological order. This block is frequently used to assess both understanding of sequence in a story and recall of chronological order of events in history. In the block, these are labeled First, Second and Third but can be changed to “Beginning”, “Middle” and “End” , dates, historical periods, numerical or alphabetical order or any other sequence.
Drag True or False
This works the same as the first block but only has two categories, labeled True and False. A designer who wishes to use other categories than true and false can simply change the headings in the HTML file.
Matching Terms
The matching terms block has terms and descriptions or definitions. The player clicks on the term and its match. If correct, the term will be moved from the left of the screen to the right, and both the term and its match shown in green. The scoreboard will show the answer is “Right” and the score will be incremented by one. A player must get all the terms correct to move ahead in the game.
